Faux Fur...Bringing together warmth and fashion

Winter can sometimes be a challenging season to stay fashionable because, depending where you are, temps can get awfully cold.  And, although, you  should follow your Mother's advice that you've hear since childhood "make sure to dress warm" you still want to make sure that you maintain your fashionista fabulousness, and channel the cute "snow bunny" and not the multilayered snowman likeness from your younger years, enter faux fur. Not only does is merge the animal friendly and the fashion friendly, it also gives you an option to be luxe and warm.  Here a few of my favs:

Jackets

Vests

Boots

Carissarose.com...A Treasure for Work Wardrobes

I have recently discovered a website called Carissarose.com.  Their slogan is "fitting the female form" and boy do they every.  Finally! A site that offers curvy women the work wardrobe we deserve! Carissarose.com custom makes their dress shirts, up to a size H cup size, and the hook and eye closures help prevent the dreaded "gap" that occurs between the buttons, in the button up shirts, right across the bust line.

On the site, you will also find tips on how to take your measurements for a custom made shirt, guides on what to wear, and also what not to wear. I think that is a very nice addition that you don't see on a lot of site, the idea of providing what to steer clear of, as well as what will work best for you.

Find the clothes that are made to fit YOU, NOT clothes that you have to fit into!

Fashion Faux Paus....Anchors Away!

Hi all.  One of the trends that has returned with a vengeance is the nautical trend.  Now, I am a fan of stripes and lagoon blues, but I am not a fan of the sailor pant that has been all over the run ways! It doesn't do any favors for the curvy woman! It is unforgivably high waisted, the faux buttons do not flatter the hips and the back is not kind to the behind.  And that, my friends, is a travesty in itself.  Enjoy the Spring trends, but I would recommend going with a nice boot cut jean, rather than the sailor.

Here is a woman who knows exactly how to work her shape! Queen Latifah continues to reign as one of the most stylish women out there.  When asked about about her multifaceted approach to style, the singer/actress said: “I’m not that into trends. I do my thing. My style is my style.” Bravo! Well said! That is a great mantra and one that we should all try!

Oh, The Weather Outside is Frightful...

This winter we have been living on borrowed time, so to speak ,with the weather. It has been so nice and so temperate, we haven't had the need to talk winter fashion. Well, now that Mother Nature has dropped the other proverbial foot with fresh snowstorms in much of the country, it's probably time to have the winter fashion talk.

Let's start with coats:

The classic P-Coat is always in style, but particularly fashionable this moment.
The name peacoat comes from the type of material that the coat is made of. It was called pilot cloth, which eventually became known as "Pee" cloth. Sailors first called them pea jackets and then just peacoats. They are made of 30-ounce wool, so they are very heavy and warm. I found a picture dated 1881 with some US sailors wearing peacoats, so the coat has been in Navy service for a long time.

The Cashmere:

Soft, classic and bold, the cashmere three-quarter is always a good call.
 www.macys.com $59.99

Let's talk layers:

The Irish/Fair Isle sweater is as cosy and comforting as sheppard's pie

Bold colors are in:

Let's Talk Boots:

Now, you have no excuse not to look both cute and cozy! Let Winter be your wonderland!

Curvy Hall of Fame-The 1950s-Jane Russell

The Curvy Hall of Fame.  A great honor that is bestowed on women throughout the decades that showed there curves without apology or explanation, as they should! They simply wore them well, and dazzled the room! Tonight, we go back in time to the 1950s.  There was a woman who had a fabulous figure, and surprisingly, her name is not Marilyn, but Jane.  This Midwest beauty,  Jane Russell, cast her curves on the silver screen for years. She definitely broke the mold of the actresses that came before her.  Finally! A woman, who was not afraid to look like a woman, a real woman.

Bravo Jane!
She not only wowed the world with her curves, she treasured who she was.
Take pride in your curves!

Ahead of the Curve...Nordstrom and Target Got It Right!

My good friend was kind enough to share this story with me, and I believe that it is definitely "Ahead of the Curve" worthy.  The story, which is covered by The Look, is about Ryan, an adorable 6 year old, who has Down Syndrome, who's latest modeling gig is with Target.  He has also modeled for Nordstrom, in their Summer catalog.  Ryan is breaking through the mold of the child model and showing everyone that a model can be more than one dimensional, that there can be a positive result to modeling.  On their blog, his mother says,

"We are very pleased that Nordstrom placed Ryan in their catalog. The whole process of modeling is an extreme confidence booster for him. He received so much warmth and caring from the Nordstrom crew that he thought they were there just for him! We are honored that Ryan is making the Down Syndrome community proud. He is a beautiful boy inside and out. He makes us better parents, and a better family."

Bravo to Target and Nordstrom for thinking outside the box! As stated in The Look, " The best thing about Target and Nordstrom’s casting of Ryan is that he’s not singled out in any way — he’s just another super cute kid smiling for the camera. The ads are inclusive, yet they aren’t trying to prove a point. They come across as completely ordinary, which in this case is a really wonderful thing"

I hope this opens the door to thinking outside the box to find models of all sizes, shapes, and colors. This is certainly a positive step in the right direction!
