In a move
that rocked the fashion world, Pope Benedict XVI stepped down from his position
as the Holy See of the Catholic Church. The stepping down part isn't what
is throwing the fashion world in a thither, so much as the pope's announcement
that he will stop wearing his trademark red loafers upon his resignation.
The stylish, hand-crafted Italian loafers have become synonymous with Pope Benedict, and a fashion statement so jazzy, Esquire Magazine called the pope "the accessorizer of the year" in 2007.
The pope will trade his red loafers in for a pair of brown, handmade Mexican loafers he received as a present when he visited the country last year.
