The Sun Sets on L'Wren Scott

For many of us, this is a day of merriment, and green is the theme, as well as the common color for your alcoholic beverage accessory. But, today is also a day of sadness for the fashion industry. L'Wren Scott was found dead, of an apparent suicide, according to law enforcements involved. Please see the CNN article for more details. http://www.cnn.com/2014

Ms. Scott, a former model, talented designer, who adorned the arm of Mic Jagger, for over a decade will be greatly missed. She created stunning and unique pieces for celebrities such as Christina Hendricks, Penelope Cruz, and First Lady, Michelle Obama. 

She will be sorely missed by all.

I think it's both fair and safe to say that we love jeans. They are comfortable, stylish, and can be worn with just about anything. 

But, if we love jeans, then we simply adore jeans that fit well. Jeans that accentuates just the right amount of curves and deemphasizes some things, are lovely and we love them. 

But, a good pair of jeans is hard to find. 

However, Ivido Jeans may just be the perfect find. Made in Colombia, these specialty "push up" jeans are constructed with strategically placed shading, stitching and fabric, to "enhance" our shapes. 

As you can see, they seem to work pretty well. I recommend.

Mariah Carey is no stranger to attention or controversy. In her two decades a top the music ladder, she has public spats, public meltdowns, and public missteps. And on top of all that, she is a gifted singer, publicly. 

So when she took her turn to perform at the BET awards, it was no surprise to see her captivate the public with a solid performance. 

But, the news for once wasn't Mariah herself, it was her dress. Seen here, she shows side boob, top boob and every other kind of boob. I'm not a prude, but I think the dress upstaged the singer.

Rihanna to Fashion World: Ditch the Bra...or not

Rihanna is a pretty mess. She has an incredible bone structure, a pretty righteous bod and lovely eyes. 

Some days, she looks as poised and classic as a princess. But other days, she looks like she pulled herself out of a gutter after a night of swashbuckling and carousing. 

Well, her recent fashion advice to Vogue may offer some insight for why she's a pretty mess. 

Rihanna confided to the stalwart fashion magazine that she likes to wear either a bra, or a top but not both. 

She also intimated that she has a thing for baggy men's clothes. 

Now, why hide such beauty under these fashion choices?

Fashion Round Up

I know it's New York Fashion Week and Carolina Herrera has rightly been the center of attention. 

But, another designer made something of a splash this week too. Actress Eva Mendez released her spring collection for NY and Company. 

I was initially skeptical of the collection when it was announced in February of last year, but this spring collection is not without its charm. 

The Lace Maria dress and the Amelia dress are classic and flirty, while the Isabel Flutter Dress is a nice mix of vintage and playful. 

I endorse these three pieces. Enjoy.

The First Lady was an absolute vision at the state dinner...she shut it all the way down! And, the designer that she was wearing was the amazingly talented Carolina Herrera! A picture is definitely worth a thousand words here. 

Body Bag... High End Fashion Designer Makes a Tasteless Faux Pas

A celebrity endorsement of any product is almost always a good thing. 
When a company can illustrate that it's products are being used by hip, trendy celebrities, sales flourish. 
See for example Dr. Dre's Beats or Louboutin's boots as prime examples of this. 
So it should come as no surprise when the Valentino fashion house made note of the fact that actress Amy Adams was spotted with one of its bags from their 2014 spring collection. But, it was the location of where she was spotted, that was the issue.  Ms. Adams was attending the wake of friend, Philip Seymour Hoffman.  I think that's all that really needs to be said. Poor form, poor form. 

Double threat? Popular Chef is Moonlighting

We know that Giada De Laurentiis can cook. The popular Food Network star whips up hearty and tasty dishes on her show "Home With Giada."

But, the celebrity chef, is about to try something new: modeling. Giada took a few minutes away from her kitchen to model a dazzling red, full-length gown designed by Carolina Herrera, at New York Fashion Week's Heart Truth Dress Collection Show. 

It's now official. Giada is really cooking.

Their Posse's on Broadway...PETA Hits Joe Namath for Superbowl Wear

I watched the Superbowl last Sunday. And I knew as soon as Joe Namath strutted out on the field wearing a three-quarter length fur coat, there was going to be an uproar. 

Not many celebrities have the audacity to sport fur nowadays. The forces that be have pretty much made the act of wearing it as shameful as attending a concert featuring Kenny G, Michael Bolton and Nickelback while wearing Mom Jeans. 

But, enter Joe Namath in all his furry glory. And we shouldn't have been the least surprised by his choice in coats. Since his playing days with the New York Jets in the 1960s, Broadway Joe has been known to wear a fur or two. 

PETA has unleashed unbridled outrage at Namath calling him an embarrassment and referring to his coat as a "cave persons."

I get that PETA wants to protect defenseless animals. I applaud that. But at 70, Namath looked pretty dazzling out there on the field, didn't he?

A Royal Reign In..

We all love Duchess Kate Middleton's fashion choices. She mixes sensible and lavish, sublime with playful, colorful with basic, beautiful black so well. 

But, Kate's mother in law, the sitting queen of England, wants to improve Kate's style a bit. 

The queen has issued several dictum's regarding Kate's fashion choices. Among the dictum's, is a call for Kate to wear statement-making jewelry, tiaras, and dresses with hems below the knee. 

Kate is taking this all in stride. She has already contacted her favorite designers to have them begin work on several pieces. 

I'll be most interested to see how this all develops but, I'm sure Kate will look splendid no matter what she wears.                                                                                                                                  

Tangerine Dream...Tangerine is the go to color for Spring

Tangerine.  The color is as yummy as its name sounds.

Worn last season by the Duchess, Kate Middleton, tangerine was a sleeper color last year.

However, this Spring, it's ready for a full on surge in popularity.  It's bold. It's fun. And, it says Spring is on its way. 

I'm not a skinny jeans fan (see my skinny jean article) but, I recommend a blouse, skirt, or shoes.

 

 

 

 

 

Grammy Fashion Round up

Ok. We all know The Grammys is less about the fashion and more about the music. To be honest, even less about the music and more about the after parties. 

And this year is no exception.  It seemed most stars were competing to see who could be more tacky (yes, I'm talking about you Madonna). 

But here's the roundup of the best dressed on the Grammy red carpet:


Beyonce-- a curve-hugging, white floral see-through, mermaid by Costello. 

Miranda Lambert-- the red plunging gown made her look all sultry and torch songstressey. Very nice. 

Not a fan of Taylor, but she put it together here. A silver Gucci full length gown. Say it with me, "classy is...classy."

Kacey Musgraves dazzled in this pink Armani layered dress.  It was almost enough dress to hide the bad ass back tattoo. Almost. 

And last but not least, Queen Latifah. Hot bod. Stunning off-the-shoulder little black dress. Officiated the marriages of 34 couples who love each other. What is not to love? Seriously. 

First Lady Obama is Looking Fierce!

We all know that First Lady Michelle Obama is a fashion forward trendsetter.  She has worn (and looked fabulous) in dresses off the rack from Target.  She has worn dresses from diverse and fringe designers.  Heck, she even stepped off Air Force One in shorts and gym shoes.  Her dress choice for the State of the Union Address continues her streak of bold, interesting choices. She wore an forest green dress with an amazing accent belt by Azzedine Alaia.  She looks stunning! Not everyone can pull off a look like this with such class and chicness, but First Lady Obama certainly gets it done! I can't wait to see what she wears next!

According to Lindsey Vonn, it does not. In a recent Interview with Self magazine, Vonn reflects on the Metropolitan Museum of Art fashion ball she attended last year. 

She says that it was difficult to be around women who were half her size--women who have "lettuce and Diet Coke for dinner."

However, she said that she was not envious of those women because they are "skinny fat"--women who are skinny, but have lots of cellulite and are not fit and strong.  Lindsey said she felt like giving them a cheeseburger. 

"It's beautiful to be strong," Vonn admitted.  

I agree with Vonn. Don't you?

I'm on my Russell Simmons, Nicki denim, Nicki linen...Nicki Minja's Walmart Spring 2014 line

Give me all your money and all of your residual, one thing that Nicki Minaj does is certainly put her money where her mouth is. She has often talked about having her own clothing line in interviews and her songs, and she has now made it happen. This talented songstress and rapper has already partnered with MAC cosmetics a number of times, and has come out with her own perfumes, it is so exciting to see her make the bridge to clothing attire. It will be interesting to see how her clothing line will be received.  It has all the spunk and sass of Ms. Minaj's wardrobe and personality. I look forward to seeing what she does next! What do you think?

Jenny Lauren, Jewelry designer and niece of fashion mainstay Ralph Lauren, was recently arrested in Ireland for breaching the peace and disorderly conduct.  She allegedly was drunk and belligerent on the Delta Air Lines flight, that the pilot had to land the plane prematurely in Ireland. 

If that's not enough, when she was detained and arrested, she mocked the Irish authorities taking her into custody by asking them to repeat their commands "in English."

Because the locale in which Lauren was arrested does not have a dedicated courthouse, so her initial appearance was held in, get this, a tavern. 

Let's just hope the judge keep her away from the bar.

What the Hell, Elle?! Mindy Kaling..What Happened to Her Cover

Well, Elle Magazine has done it again. First, Gabourey, then Melissa, now Mindy.  What is their problem with properly honoring the women who are above a size 4?

 

 

 So, I get that they were trying to do a good thing..so they say, but it did not pan out for them...again.

Let me back up, so for the month of February, Elle Magazine chose to highlight four of television's hottest female stars, Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Allison Williams and Zooey Deschanel in four separate covers, which is great. 

But, what Jezebel Magazine pointed out, as well as msn, was that out of the four women, three who are white and hovering around size 0s, got the 3/4 pose shot, where as Mindy, the only woman of color, and a proud size 8, received the cropped shot (which only features her face), and here is the final kicker, her cover was in black and white, where as the other women's where in full color. 

I don't know how someone could come up with an idea like that, let alone sign off on it, but Elle has proven for a third time, that something is amuck.  It will be interesting to see how they try to spin this one.
